The Maine ethics commission is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss what will happen if there’s not enough public money to fund all Clean Election candidates who qualify, but it may be a contingency plan that’s unnecessary if not enough candidates qualify for the funding.
The Lincoln County Republican Committee kicked off 2010 with guest speaker State Senator Peter Mills, running for the Republican nomination for governor. A native of Farmington, Maine, Senator Mills spoke primarily on what would be his focus if elected governor.
The evening began with John Frary stating that Peter Mills is usually the smartest guy in the room… except when Frary is present. Mills discussed how to grow Maine, accountability in the delivery of state services, and streamlining regulations for small businesses.
State Senator Peter Mills of Somerset, the only Republican running for governor as a “clean” candidate, announced he has raised well over 90% of the start up funds necessary to compete in the Republican Primary in June, and collected over 1,600 donations to Clean Elections. With nearly 2,000 contributions from Maine residents, Mills’ support extends across all of Maine’s sixteen counties and equally represents the northern and southern districts.
